Having more than nine decades of history, the emblematic Villaflores Flower Shop in San Sebasti\u00e1n is one of the oldest family businesses in the city, and it is worth looking back to discover its origins: Villaflores was the name of a building located in the Marruchipi District where the same family that still owns the business today had its first greenhouses. The plants that decorated the most select spaces of San Sebasti\u00e1n were grown in those greenhouses. The family opened its first shop in 1954 in the Gros District. In 1962, they opened a second boutique just behind the city hall. Years later, a new space \u2013this time in the Amara District\u2013 replaced the first establishment. And in 2024, Villaflores moved its main store from the Old Quarter to the central Pe\u00f1aflorida Street. And it is precisely in that elegant boutique where Pilar Landa, the third generation of this family, is in charge of keeping the company at the forefront of floral design. Tenderness, observation, creativity, functionality, the study of color, and a respect for nature are just some of the guidelines that Pilar uses as a basis for her daily work. Sharing that love of nature is vital for Landa, which is why she teaches Ikebana<\/em> workshops in her establishments \u2013 the Japanese art of arranging flowers in a decorative manner in order to convey a mystical idea of perfection.<\/p>\n

Thanks to her dedication and meticulous thought process when combining colors and harmonizing spaces, Landa has had the chance to decorate big-name hotels such as the Mar\u00eda Cristina, the Lasala Plaza, and the Ch\u00e2teau Brindos, not to mention the homes of members of high society who spent the summer in San Sebasti\u00e1n and historic buildings for holding events like Miramar Palace, Arteaga Castle, and Murgu\u00eda Palace. In terms of floral art as it pertains to corporate and institutional environments, Villaflores has worked with first-class leaders: the Regional Government of Gipuzkoa, the Kursaal Convention Center, the company Orona, Perrier-Jou\u00ebt Champagne, the French jeweler Mauboussin, the San Telmo Museum, the Gipuzkoa Science and Technology Park, the financial services company Barclays, and the San Sebasti\u00e1n International Film Festival. The firm even designed all the floral and plant decorations for Woody Allen’s film “Rifkin’s Festival.”<\/p>\n

Villaflores has sprouted, grown, and flourished in San Sebastian: it has accompanied hundreds of couples to the altar, its creations have surprised thousands of guests who have stayed in the city’s luxury hotels, it has decorated countless corporations, it has made both large and small celebrations and events more beautiful. In short, it has made history.<\/p>\n
