First and foremost, we would like to thank BASQUE LUXURY MAGAZINE for its interest in Eduardo Chillida, his work, and his thought. <\/em><\/p>\n

There are different ways to understand the meaning of the term “luxury.” Certainly, for Eduardo Chillida it was a true luxury to have been able to dedicate his entire life to the pursuit of what he called the \u201cunattainable limits.\u201d A marvelous personal adventure, one that he always referred to by saying how lucky he was in his life to be able to create a good part of what he was always chasing. In his case, that was a real luxury. <\/em><\/p>\n

In other regards, he was always a man who didn’t need too many things, just a few, humanly important things, such as great freedom, integrity, dignity, and absolute dedication to his work and those closest to him. Nothing exceptional, but all absolutely necessary to do as much as he did \u2013 and he did do a lot. <\/em><\/p>\n

We could say that \u2013for him\u2013 his life was a true luxury and \u2013for us\u2013 the true luxury when we study his work and his art is to receive and to be able to perceive and feel that which, one way or another, he was trying to transmit to us. He always said that he, like all artists, worked for himself, but that he was sure that everything he felt when creating his work was transmitted, to a greater or lesser extent, to those who contemplated it. <\/em><\/p>\n

Indeed, Chillida was a true luxury for all \u2013 and he always will be.<\/em><\/p>\n
