Villa Soro is a hotel that emerged out of the careful renovation of a villa, conceived by the prestigious architect Luis Elizalde at the end of the nineteenth century. Declared Historical Heritage of the City of San Sebastián, it offers a perfect balance between the welcoming atmosphere of a century-old house combined with the services and comfort of a modern luxury hotel. The building maintains the spirit of the Belle Époque intact, with its spacious lounges, high ceilings, fireplaces, a carved wooden staircase, a chapel, and a stained-glass window on the ceiling that represents the lineage of the family that originally lived in this home. In the hotel’s rooms, it is common to find works by renowned artists such as Eduardo Chillida and Jose Cháfer. One can also come across sculptures by Iñigo Manterola in the gardens surrounding the villa, which were originally designed by Pierre Ducasse (the gardener of the Royal Household of Spain). A stately fence guards the property from prying eyes, and only guests can cross through the gate.
The establishment’s 25 rooms are distributed between the estate’s main building and the old stables. Each of the rooms is different (some have a private yard with outdoor furniture, others have a terrace, others a living room, etc.) but they all have something in common: the feelings of wellbeing, exclusivity, and peace that all guests experience during their stay.
Breakfast is served both on the outside terrace and inside the bar, called Eguzki Soro. It features fruit, freshly squeezed juices, freshly baked pastries, toast, cold cuts, cereal, hot dishes, and omelets and eggs made to order – all served in a traditional way, like in a private home. In the afternoon/evening, the bar’s menu changes to offer a combination of top-quality gourmet products with snacks and personalized cocktails.
Villa Soro has a wellbeing area with elegant cabins where guests can enjoy a massage or facial and body treatments, as well as a gym equipped with the latest Technogym machines. The hotel also provides guests with bicycles so they can discover San Sebastián on two wheels. Being located so close to the center and with 65 km of bike lanes that run throughout the municipality, the bicycle is the most practical option to move comfortably around the city – a city with so much to offer.
