Rioja is considered the land of a thousand wines: almost 15,000 winegrowers from 600 wineries who are devoted body and soul to caring for the vines and producing high-quality products that are exported to more than 120 countries around the world. The Rioja Qualified Denomination of Origin covers an area of more than 65,000 hectares, subdivided into three zones: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa, and Rioja Oriental. Of the 144 municipalities that make up the Rioja wine region, 118 are in the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, 18 are in Álava, and 8 are in Navarre.
Being the first wine tourism destination of Spain, with more than 860,000 annual visits to wineries, some producers have designed a series of premium experiences to fully enjoy the nature zones, the local lifestyle, and the wineries by accessing exclusive spaces with utmost service, discretion, and security guaranteed.
Vertical tastings of premium wines, historical vintages, and labels that are off the market; picnics in vineyards, pairing events, exclusive shopping, the chance to meet the owners of the wine estates, tasting events to compare different terroirs, and visits to vineyards in an off-road vehicle are just some of the many personalized experiences thought up by the winemakers.
With all the wineries that offer unique experiences for wine and gastronomy enthusiasts to enjoy, the Rioja wine region has become a symbol of tourism of quality and prestige as a result of the excellent wines that are made in the region and the innovative activities on offer for visitors – activities that help to contextualize and better understand the local area. An example of that are the breakfasts and brunches at the vineyards, hot air balloon rides to enjoy the best views, wine tasting courses, tasting events, wine bars, vineyard tours, family grape harvests, etc. There is always room for a unique experience. And we deserve a Rioja this year more than ever.
