The Vastameroli Palace of San Sebastián is transformed into a luxury hotel
On the Paseo de Francia, one of the most elegant avenues in San Sebastián –classified as a protected space by the city hall– a new, four-star-superior hotel has just been inaugurated, known as Abba San Sebastián. The building in which it is located, the old Vastameroli Palace, is one of the most beautiful in the city and was erected in 1937 by architect Eduardo Lagarde. It is a four-story house/palace in Baroque style surrounded by landscaped grounds and which features magnificent views of the Urumea River and the city center.
During its conversion into a hotel, the protected facade of the building, with its coat of arms and its beautiful sandstone ornaments, has been kept intact, respecting the original appearance. Nevertheless, the interior has been completely reconfigured to adapt to the needs of the new business activity to be housed therein, with the lower floor being dedicated to common areas and the upper three floors to guest rooms. There are a total of 44 rooms, divided into four categories: Cozy, Boutique, Superior Corner, and Superior Corner with a Terrace. The decoration of the rooms combines classic style with modern flair, with a great presence of blues and whites to honor the colors of the city. The reception area, the reading room, the space where breakfasts are served, and the lounge bar are all located on the lower floor. Guests and external clients can enjoy the delights of the beverage and snack menu at the bar/cafeteria either inside or in one of the two outdoor spaces: the garden and the cozy courtyard.
The crown jewel is located on the palace’s rooftop terrace, where the property has reserved an exclusive area for guests featuring a solarium and a small pool/fountain where one can cool off. From this panoramic terrace that offers a 360º view, you can see the neighborhoods of Gros, Egia, the Old Quarter, Amara, and the Town Center –all of which are located just 5 minutes away on foot–, and you can even see the sea. Having a space of these characteristics in a historical building that is so well located is a real privilege and a good opportunity to relive the Belle Époque.
