The Royal Residence is a suite that measures 1,975 m2 and occupies the entire top floor of the Hotel Atlantis by Giardino in Zürich. It was built at the request of Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, who was the Emir of Qatar between 1972 and 1995. The Emir never got the chance to stay at the suite, as he died in 2016 – just one year before the construction project wrapped up.
The grandeur and detail in this suite’s decoration surprise even the most demanding of guests: silk rugs, gold faucets, alabaster bidets, etc. The Royal Residence has eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a dining room with a full kitchen, two living rooms, one oriental room, a garage with a private elevator, and a terrace measuring 830 m2. In addition to the usual services offered by five-star hotels, those staying at this residence can also have a butler 24 hours a day, a private chef, a Rolls-Royce with a driver, secretaries, beauticians, and they can even enjoy barbecue facilities on their terrace.
This suite’s luxurious Versailles-like style with oriental flair contrasts with the more refined, modern look of the rest of the hotel. In both cases, the quality of the service and the food live up to the expectations of any Emir. Hotel Atlantis by Giardino has two restaurants –‘Hide & Seek’ and ‘Ecco Zürich’ (awarded two Michelin Stars)–, a bar, a cigar lounge (with a variety of Cuban and Davidoff cigars), a gym (located inside a bunker), a 25-meter outdoor pool, and a spa that features products by the Swiss brand Dipiù, as well as Ayurvedic treatments.
Hotel Atlantis enjoys a privileged location at the foot of the Uetliberg Mountain, and it offers a panoramic view of the entire city. Perhaps that could be one of the reasons why so many stars –from Freddie Mercury to Elton John, as well as Eric Clapton and Steve McQueen– have decided to stay at this legendary hotel.
In addition to The Royal Residence and the other sophisticated suites and rooms available at the hotel, Atlantis by Giardino has yet another iconic sleeping area: the Hublot Suite, created in cooperation with the famous watch brand. Without a doubt, this is the preferred room in Zürich for those who collect watches manufactured by said company.
