Nestled inside Urdaibai —a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve— and surrounded by lush forests and the gentle murmur of the Cantabrian Sea, the Houses of Ea Astei offer a serene retreat where traditional Basque architecture meets sustainable innovation. Set in a vast private estate in the municipality of Ea, this collection of tourist rentals strives for harmonious hospitality — respectful of the environment and deeply in tune with the rhythm of nature.
The project originated from the meticulous restoration of an eighteenth-century farmhouse, from which five dwellings emerged. Over time, additional units —each featuring its own kitchen and different capacities— have been added, creating an intimate and diverse ensemble conceived for contemplation. From original structures (like the complex’s granary) to contemporary and self-sufficient villas, each home reveals its own personality, blending discreetly into the surrounding wooded landscape.
The property also features a wellness area with a heated outdoor pool, sauna, and solarium — all framed by beautifully tended gardens. This tranquil setting is equally ideal for professional gatherings. Companies from various sectors find here the perfect environment for collective reflection, thanks to a fully equipped meeting room with advanced technology and a welcoming txoko (group events hall) with a kitchen and dining area.
The Houses of Ea Astei are ideally located just minutes away from iconic landmarks such as the Oma Painted Forest, the Santimamiñe Cave, Gernika, and the Islet of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, offering an exceptional starting point for exploring the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
More than a place to rest, this site is an invitation to experience time differently — to live slowly, consciously, and profoundly connected to the land.
