The Houses of Ea Astei: a new lodging concept that combines the glamping lifestyle with vacation rentals
In the beautiful town of Ea, one of the least known jewels of the Basque coast, a new concept for accommodation has arisen which combines the glamping lifestyle with vacation rentals. It is a private estate surrounded by lush forests where several buildings with 10 homes of different characteristics and styles are built: The Houses of Ea Astei.
Five of the cottages –Ametsa, Lurra, Harria, Ganbara, and Txoria– are located in an eighteenth-century farmhouse that has been completely restored and renovated. With capacity for two guests, Ametsa has a double room, a bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and a terrace that opens out to nature. On the ground floor is Lurra, featuring two bedrooms with an en-suite bathroom, capacity for four people, a kitchen, and direct access to the garden. Harria and Ganbara have two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a spacious living area. Txoria is meant to accommodate two guests and it has a bedroom, a bathroom, and a living room with a kitchen.
The old barn of the farmhouse, completely remodeled, has been converted into the Sabai cottage, which can hold up to four people: it has a bedroom with a bathroom and an open space measuring 95 m2 like a loft which features a fireplace and which is where the kitchen connects with the living room and the second bedroom.
The largest of the complex’s accommodation options is the Vita Cottage: a contemporary and sustainable building that can house up to six guests in its 180 m2. This option is equipped with three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, as well as a living room/kitchen/dining room with a fireplace and a large terrace with views of the oak and eucalyptus forests. Very similar in style but with a capacity for 4 people is Okana, which also has a private garden.
Etxola is an independent, wood cabin surrounded by a garden – ideal for a couple and a child. It has two bedrooms, a bathroom, and a living room with a kitchen and a terrace.
The last (and most romantic) of the cottages is Garaixe; a granary built in larch wood featuring a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a private terrace.
Guests at The Houses of Ea Astei have free access to the common areas of the estate and can make use of all its services like the heated outdoor pool with a solarium. The meeting room and txoko (an events hall for groups that is equipped with a kitchen) can be reserved for business meetings, courses, presentations, tastings, etc. The property also has parking and a well-kept garden with a gazebo.
The original concept that this company has brought to the table has managed to grab the attention of a certain type of guest who has found in this space a place to enjoy their holidays in the Basque Country while being in sync with nature.
