Music is one of the most important elements of a wedding, and hitting on a repertoire that aligns with the type of event and the place where it is held is essential. In this regard, live performance has established itself as the predominant trend in high society weddings. In the Basque Country, Sotto Voce is the chamber group that has taken center stage in the most distinguished ceremonies.
Directed by violinist Pedro Miguel Aguinaga, Sotto Voce proposes a series of songs to couples for each phase of the wedding. Civil weddings begin with the entry of the guests and the groom, followed by the entrance of the bride, the readings, the exchange of rings, the signatures, and the exit; and the repertoire for this process includes very different composers and groups like Metallica, John Lennon, Handel, Benito Lertxundi, Ken Zazpi, or James Horner. Religious weddings, which include an offertory and communion, have a more classic repertoire, with pieces like Alleluia by Mozart, Gloria by Vivaldi, and the Air from Bach’s Third Orchestral Suite in D Major.
For the cocktail party and the banquet, the bride and groom can choose the most appropriate style for their wedding: classical, opera, soundtracks, tango, bolero, and Basque music. They can even request specific songs. No piece is too big for Pedro Miguel Aguinaga. Their musical arrangements, together with their delicacy when interpreting songs, has led Sotto Voce to provide the music for all kinds of weddings from the most lavish, held in important cathedrals, to the most intimate, carried out on historic sailing ships in the middle of the sea.
