Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Donald Sutherland, Monica Bellucci, Chris Hemsworth, Judi Dench, and Danny DeVito; many actors have passed in front photographer Mikel Blasco’s camera. His work with the San Sebastián International Film Festival, as well as with other important events like Mextrópoli –the Architecture and City Festival that is held annually in Mexico City– and the Platino Ibero-American Cinema Awards is common. Blasco is like a fish in water on both sides of the Atlantic, making videos and photo reports for clients on both continents.
The video clip for the song ‘Hainbeste’ by singer Izaro was one of his most recent pieces. This video, which was presented last September and is part of the album ‘Limones en Invierno,’ was recorded entirely in Mexico, a country where Blasco spends long periods of time.
Last year he also released a documentary/interview on the renowned British architect David Chipperfield for Mextrópoli, and a documentary about the Battle of Cape Machichaco, a naval confrontation that took place in 1937 off the coast of Biscay.
Regarding his photo reports, Blasco combines jobs received from architecture magazines and construction companies (portraying interiors is one of his strongest points) with more personal projects. During the lockdown that we were subjected to in 2020 because of the health emergency, he developed a series of photos in which he portrayed the life that cropped up in unusual spaces, such as terraces or balconies. Nevertheless, the personal work that he carries out regularly, which he sometimes exhibits in cultural centers, mostly involves visiting other countries where he coexists with the local community to transmit a close-up view of the daily life of the people there. After his series on Peru, Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, and Oman, all of which were presented in recent years, his next destinations are Russia and Israel.
