Any self-respecting fashionista who visits the Basque Country knows that there is one essential place to discover the latest trends in urban fashion: number 10 of Hernani Street in San Sebastián. That is where the Manila San Sebastián boutique is located, founded by renowned stylist Helena Iturralde. One simply has to follow her social media to realize that she is Manila, and Manila is her. Her outgoing, extroverted, and natural personality combines with her exquisite taste for fashion and her ability to create unique looks by combining pieces from a variety of brands and styles. And Manila is the translation of that strong personality into a physical space, divided into two floors: one for women’s fashion and the other –called Sótano– for men’s fashion.
On the main floor, women will find garments by Stella McCartney, MM6 Maison Margiela, Psophía, Meimeij, Rita Row, Y-3, Add, Loreak Mendian, I Feel Nut, Neirami, Moyuru, and BIAAF (Bilbao International Art and Fashion), footwear by Yume Yume, Salomon, Gamo, Vagabond, handmade scarves by Ezcaray, hats by Esenhel, berets by Elosegui, glasses by Komono and by Chimi, bags by Mariana Méndez, as well as charms and leather goods by the brand Manila itself, designed by Iturralde. All of this is on display in a modern space decorated with works of art by Miguel Balliache and Patxi Zapirain, as well as with designer pieces by Patricia Urquiola and Alexander Girard (such as the famous Wooden Dolls from Vitra).
Sótano features menswear by Willy Chavarría for the Y-3 collection, Axel Arigato, MM6 Maison Margiela, Les Deux, Barrow, NN07, Loreak Mendian, A Paper Kid, Unfeigned, Samsoe Samsoe, Add, and Haikure, jewelery by Two Jeys, and footwear by Camper, Seddys, Vagabond, Salomon, the Adidas Y-3 collection, as well as the extravagant yellow Crocs by the MSCHF art collective which have won over the likes of Tommy Cash, Maluma, Victoria Beckham, and Paris Hilton – among others.
Beyond fashion, the excellent atmosphere created by Iturralde and her team makes Manila a regular meeting place for their clients; a place where one can easily find the Village People or famous actors attending the San Sebastian Film Festival, have a glass of champagne, enjoy a fashion show, or even a massive party. This is Manila.
