The Basque Country has become a very popular wedding destination in recent years. There are also many couples who take advantage of the region’s uniqueness to organize a stay with their loved ones, visiting towns in both the Basque Country and the French Basque Country and holding the wedding on one side of the border and the activities on the other. In that sense, the Machoenïa estate has seen a considerable increase in requests from foreigners who wish to say “I do” at the property because of its strategic location: it is just 20 kilometers from Biarritz and San Sebastián. Halfway between the two touristic cities, Machoenïa has attracted entire families from the United Kingdom, the USA, Singapore, and Japan.
It is one of the region’s best venues for holding the most beautiful events: the heart of the property features an eighteenth-century farmhouse and stables that have been converted into the main dining room, being able to accommodate up to 170 guests. In addition, there is an outdoor terrace measuring 250 m2 where a canopy can be installed to accommodate more people – up to a maximum number of 350 guests. Surrounding the two buildings are lush gardens (many brides and grooms hold the ceremony here, thus enjoying all the parts of the wedding on the estate itself) and fields where horses graze, all guarded by La Rhune Mountain (which can be climbed on a rack railway built in 1924).
The banquet is the responsibility of the Bokado Group, a leader in miniature haute cuisine catering services. Established in San Sebastián in 1996, this company has renowned firms and institutions amongst its customers such as UEFA, BMW, Gamesa, Real Sociedad, Carrefour, the Balenciaga Museum, and the Salzburg Opera. Guests who attend weddings at Machoenïa enjoy delicacies like cream of jumbo red prawns; pheasant consommé served with mushrooms, vegetables, and country eggs; monkfish roasted in traditional style; beef sirloin with grains and piquillo pepper confit; and truffle mousse with almond bavarois.
In addition to weddings, numerous corporate events are also held at Machoenïa. The outdoor and indoor facilities are completely versatile and adapt –with their modular furniture– to all kinds of events: wine tastings, themed meals, gastronomic dinners, product debuts, exhibitions, fashion shows, and workshops. As the estate has several hectares of land, the possibilities are endless. And it is precisely that –being able to celebrate an event in direct contact with nature– which guests appreciate most, both locals and those arriving from other parts of the world.
