San Sebastián has many beautiful corners to watch the sunset, but none as special as the Itxas Bide estate. Located on the slope of Mount Igueldo, just a few meters above sea level, and featuring a magnificent view of the Cantabrian Sea, this discreet private property is only accessible to the public on special occasions when SunsetBastian picnics are held. This initiative came to be two years ago and consists of enjoying beautiful sunsets while gourmet products are savored in the form of a picnic. The experience is directed towards the locals and foreign visitors; to couples, families, and groups of friends.
The food basket is customizable and can contain a basic selection of typical regional foods –Spanish omelet, bread, cheese wedges, water, and beers– and this selection can be topped off with delicacies such as sturgeon caviar, champagne, wine, cider, txakoli, mojitos, anchovies, bonito, pork loin, and ham, among others. To ensure supreme quality, the organizers work only with trusted suppliers and producers: cheese from Elkano 1, canned foods from Serrats, bread from The Loaf, seafood from Sagastume…. One of the latest gourmet baskets they designed includes cold cuts from Maskarada, a family business in Lekunberri that specializes in raising the local Euskal Txerri pig breed. The sea salchichón, seasoned with seaweed and black pepper, the Ezpeleta chorizo, made with paprika from the Basque-French town of Espelette, and the forest salchichón, prepared with mushrooms and black pepper, are some of the company’s delights.
For serious gourmets, SunsetBastian has created the “Signature Picnics” concept – a unique array of snacks devised by great chefs awarded with Michelin stars. Andoni Luis Aduriz, Ángel León, Diego Guerrero, Eneko Atxa, Joan Roca, Maca de Castro, Nacho Manzano, Pepe Solla, and Quique Dacosta all participate in this exclusive initiative that brings the exquisite taste of the best chefs closer to nature.
