After being named the best accommodation option in the world in 2024 in the Best Of Wine Tourism awards, granted by the prestigious Great Wine Capitals organization, La Casa Cosme Palacio continues to renew its experiences for travelers seeking exclusive stays in which they can blend in with their surroundings, immerse themselves in the local culture and cuisine, and enjoy a stay defined by excellence.
In addition to being the first invitation-only accommodation option in Spain, La Casa Cosme Palacio’s aim is to make guests feel at home in the most literal sense of the word – all thanks to an application process in which the La Casa team makes sure they get to know the client’s profile and personalize every detail of their stay, from the activities organized to the dining options and wellness services available.
Located at the foot of the medieval village of Laguardia, La Casa sits on the site of the old Cosme Palacio winery, founded in 1894. After meticulous renovation, a charming atmosphere has been created with rustic, warm, and comfortable luxury. The original structure of the building has been preserved, maintaining twenty old fermentation tanks, six centuries-old underground cellars with stone walls, and the cart unloading room used during the grape harvest – now transformed into the main dining room, adding a special touch to the culinary experience.
The 13 rooms, four of which are suites, are located atop the old fermentation tanks. They are individually decorated and feature large windows that let in the light from the Ebro Valley, allowing guests to witness special moments such as the grape harvest.
Other traditional winemaking spaces now restored for La Casa guests include the old cooperage –now a gym and Natura Bissé wellness center– and the stables –which house a museum of implements and tools for working with the grapevine– located next to the heated swimming pool. The former stables will soon be home to a space for cooking roasts and holding workshops on local cuisine, pottery, and botany, as well as a pool bar.
Guests enjoy a wide range of services and comforts courtesy of La Casa, such as a 24-hour butler service, in-house chef, premium amenities, e-bike and ATV tours through the vineyards, private visits to Laguardia, and –of course– exclusive access to the century-old winery that is home to La Casa Cosme Palacio, with the possibility of tasting the wines from the historic collection.
In addition to these experiences, each guest can design their own plans with the dedicated help of the guest manager, as well as discovering the gastronomy, history, and culture of the region alongside local craftsmen, craftswomen, and experts: yoga and meditation at dawn; a horse ride at the end of the day; hot-air balloon rides following the winding course of the Ebro River; flower picking in the property’s organic garden; workshops on flower arrangements, ceramics, and perfume creation; relaxation in the wellness area with Natura Bissé facial and body beauty treatments that provide an unforgettable journey into the realm of calm and wellbeing; the management of visits to wineries and reservations in renowned restaurants; a getaway around the villages of La Rioja and the medieval city of Vitoria-Gasteiz; a visit to the museums of Bilbao; and a sailboat ride between San Sebastián and Getaria.
Last fall, La Casa Cosme Palacio also opened a new space outside the estate with the aim of extending its philosophy beyond the walls of the old winery: La Despensa de La Casa Cosme Palacio (“The Casa Cosme Palacio Pantry”). Located next to the main square of Laguardia and preserving the medieval stone of the building which houses it, La Despensa is an open window to the craftsmanship and small pleasures of the rich local and national gastronomy, always seeking local essence and roots: wines from the wineries of Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos (owners of La Casa Cosme Palacio), located in the main Designations of Origin; a selection of products from the region like extra virgin olive oil from olives harvested on the estate, honey produced by La Casa’s own beekeeper, artisan chocolates with almonds from the family, premium and organic cheeses, and cold cuts made exclusively for La Despensa; traditional blankets from Ezcaray; organic candles; and everything you need for having a luxury picnic among the vineyards.
