When speaking of the “room with a view” concept, we tend to think of spectacular rooms and suites that have views that leave us speechless. However, there are also other hotel rooms that deserve to be placed in this category. That is the case of the Iturregi Hotel of Getaria’s dining room – a space in which the views are like a true work of art.
Just like canvases hanging in a museum, the six large windows in the dining room –dressed with curtains by Gastón y Daniela– overlook the hotel’s garden, where large sculptures by artist Iñigo Manterola rest. This private garden for the exclusive use of guests leads to the txakoli vineyards that surround the property and which help to produce local wine of the Getariako Txakolina Designation of Origin. Poking out timidly from the vineyards, one can find several farmhouses, wineries, and small forests. The green of the vineyards ends up merging into the navy blue of the Cantabrian Sea which, in turn, merges into the sky.
This “Garden of Eden” is what the guests staying in one of Iturregi’s eight rooms contemplate every morning when they go down to breakfast. A complete breakfast served at the table and which includes freshly squeezed juices, fruit salad prepared every morning, yogurt, coffee, infusions, toast with a selection of cold cuts accompanied by crushed tomato spread, various pastries, and the option of eggs prepared however you like them – all surrounded by the unparalleled landscape.
The interior of the dining room, featuring a fir floor painted gray, has eight tables covered with colorful tablecloths, bouquets of flowers, and plants that invite you to delve into nature. To have breakfast here is to contemplate “The Garden of Eden” by Jan Brueghel the Elder: a superb Flemish Baroque landscape framed for the enjoyment of aesthetes.
