From the window of his room in the Hotel de Londres y de Inglaterra, artist Toulouse-Lautrec described San Sebastián as “a small version of Paris, with a sea enclosed in a bay as if it were a painting.” The impressionist painter is one of the many personalities who have chosen this emblematic accommodation option for their stay in San Sebastián: Queen Isabella II of Spain, King Charles I of Portugal, spy Mata Hari, film director Orson Welles, philosopher David Strauss, and actress Sarah Bernhardt are all part of this historic legacy.
Since its inauguration in 1867, the hotel has undergone numerous changes, transformations, extensions (such as the construction of an additional floor in 2011, baptized “Seventh Heaven”), and renovations (by 2021 all the rooms had been updated).
