100 years! The emblematic González Larrauri jewelry shop in San Sebastián, specialized in contemporary jewelry for women, has just celebrated its first centenary. It is a privilege to have family establishments with such a long history as this one: companies that have seen the city grow and have witnessed numerous important events that have marked the development of the city and society. The location of this store is especially relevant in this regard, as it occupies the corner between Avenida de la Libertad and Calle Urbieta, two of the main commercial arteries in San Sebastián.
Today, the third and fourth generation of the same family are present at the helm of the business, which got its start in 1923 in the Relojería Suiza Shop located on Calle Miracruz. Following in the footsteps of their grandparents and their parents, Virginia and Esteban González Bastida and Ane and Amaia (Virginia’s daughters), continue to offer customers individualized attention that is adapted to each and every circumstance, proposing top quality pieces that have been finished exquisitely. Without neglecting their roots as a classical jewelry shop, they have been able to become part of the current informal fashion world.
Trying to make the shop’s collection as personal as possible, they visit national and international fairs to select special pieces from amongst the large firms and small craftsmen. They aim to surprise their regular customers and occasional visitors with rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, and bracelets both for daily life and for more special moments in one’s personal and family life. The shop also has a wide range of engagement rings and wedding bands.
Considering the origin of the company, watchmaking continues to be of great importance at González Larrauri: they work with Frederique Constant, the maison in Geneva that is renowned for its creation of affordable luxury watches, and with the classic Swiss brand Ebel, linked to modern architecture. Likewise, they sell timepieces by L.Bruat, whose watches are created by Swiss artist Laurent Bruat; CT Scuderia, an example of impeccable Italian design; Victorinox, a sports watch with a young and attractive design; Alpina, the legendary sports watch brand; Qlocktwo, which gives the time in words in multiple languages and is available in wall clock, table clock, and wristwatch format; and MeisterSinger, a German company famous for its single-hand watches. The latter brand has created a limited edition piece that is exclusive to González Larrauri and dedicated to the city of San Sebastián – complete with the silhouette of the most representative buildings in the capital on the back (the Buen Pastor Cathedral, the city hall, the Victoria Eugenia Theater, etc.). There is also an inscription that reads, “Donostia bat bakarra munduan” (“There is only one San Sebastián and it is unique in all the world”). This verse is from the march composed by Raimundo Sarriegui and Serafín Baroja in the nineteenth century. That line, which is sung accompanied by the roar of drums every January 20, is a symbol of the city; as is González Larrauri, a jewelry shop that has become part of the living history of San Sebastián.
