Creativity and technical quality are the characteristics that could best define Casa Munoa. This San Sebastián jewelry shop, whose origins date back to the Belle Époque, is today managed by Claudio Munoa, the third generation of the family. He is in charge of designing each of the pieces that are subsequently manufactured in the workshop, which is located in the store itself. In addition to conceiving the shop’s fine jewelry collection, Claudio also designs pieces to order using any of the metals, gems, and characteristics that his customers would like. He also undertakes specific collaborative initiatives with companies and artists.
Claudio Munoa, along with his husband Gonzalo, are in charge of the store. “We design, manufacture, and sell our pieces in the same store,” they begin by saying, “with the help of Ane and Félix, the workshop’s master jewelers.” The jewelry shop is one of the most established businesses of its kind in the capital of Gipuzkoa, considering that it was founded in 1935.
Altogether they have years of combined experience, and that allows them to offer unparalleled service and advice. “We always offer the most professional service possible, taking into account our experience and training,” they clarify. In the store they have a charming and elegant space to serve the public, but they also have their workshop and design studio.
To fully understand the success of Casa Munoa, it is worth looking back and learning about the history of each of the generations of this family. In 1909, the first generation started working at Pablo Beiner’s Joyería y Relojería Suiza (jewelry and Swiss watchmaking shop), supplier of the Royal Household. Later, in 1935, the family opened their first establishment that belonged to them on Alameda del Boulevard in San Sebastián, subsequently relocating to Calle Aldamar (their current location), where Rafael Munoa took over (the second generation of the family). Rafael was special in that he managed to bring his boundless creativity to jewelry design.
Claudio began his career in the business in 1985, by delving into the family workshop. After studying jewelry and design at the Massana School in Barcelona and participating in various courses organized by the Parisian school of Bijouterie, Joaillerie et Orfèvrerie (bijou and fine jewelery and goldsmithing), he continued his career in the family boutique – where he received his true education. Over time, Claudio managed to dominate both the technical field and the creative field, and today he is at the helm of this renowned jeweler; a symbol of handmade Basque jewelry and a must on anyone’s visit to San Sebastián.
