Brai-Kantauri: you will love sailing and taking boat trips along the Basque coast
Brai-Kantauri is a company dedicated to offering boat trips along the Basque coast; in fact, it has the first motorboat that allows access to people with reduced mobility. The ship –spacious, safe, comfortable, stable, and elegant– is captained by Asier Oyarzabal and has a maximum capacity of 12 passengers.
One of the most important characteristics of this boat is the speed it reaches of up to 26 knots (it literally glides over the waves), making it possible to undertake private outings that cover great distances in a single day. Brai-Kantauri offers eight trips (lasting two, four, six, or eight hours) which can be completely customized to suit the client. There are two two-hour outings: the “East Route” and the “West Route,” which cover San Sebastián-Pasaia and San Sebastián-Getaria, respectively. The three four-hour outings are: the “East Route to France,” “West Route with Flysch,” and “Maritime Photographic Safari,” the latter features the search for and sighting of dolphins, tuna, and different birds. The “Route around the Côte Basque and La Corniche” lasts six hours and covers the coast between San Sebastián and Biarritz. Finally, the two outings lasting eight hours are “Everything Gipuzkoa,” which includes the entire coastline of the province from Hondarribia to Mutriku, and “Unforgettable Day,” which is customized by combining the aforementioned routes.
Brai-Kantauri is also the only Basque company that offers regular outings along routes rarely used by tourist boats: San Sebastián-Pasaia and San Sebastián-Hendaya. Due to the reduced number of seats available and the size of the boat itself, these routes become semi-private tours. Trips include an audio story and an on-board catering service.
The Brai-Kantauri dining service deserves special mention since it is the captain himself who is in charge of preparing the dishes that are served on board. Before becoming a captain, Oyarzabal worked in the kitchens of several luxury hotels both in San Sebastián and abroad, and today he applies that know-how by satisfying the demanding taste of his passengers.
