BASQUE LUXURY FIRM: GARFIELD
This was my first time in the Basque Country. I came early, at the beginning of the San Sebastián Film Festival, because I wanted to experience the city. I had been wanting to come here for a long time, mainly for the food and for the surfing. I had heard from so many friends that this is an incredible city, and it truly is: I had the most amazing week here.
I had two friends with me at the beginning of the week, and we ate better than we have ever eaten. We started the trip at Arzak, which was the greatest meal of my life. I went there with two friends from high school – I have known them since we were 12 years old; and to have that kind of meal together and reminisce about our last 20 years of friendship over high quality wines… it was really a special moment. We had the chance to meet the amazing chef and the whole team in the kitchen. It was absolutely spectacular. That was the beginning of our Basque adventure.
Then we did a great pintxos tour around the old town, which was phenomenal.
I got to surf a couple of times at Zurriola, which was pretty amazing. We also went for a bike ride to the mountains and I fell into a ravine, which was really scary; but I survived, so the ride ended on a positive note.
We had a remarkable time with the festival as the backdrop, and I managed to see a couple of fantastic films.
It was a really spectacular time. I’m very, very happy to have come here.
