The “Basque Living” space, located in the Tabakalera International Center for Contemporary Culture of San Sebastian, is a private/public collaborative initiative promoted by Cluster Habic and conceived by the Official Association of Interior Designers of Gipuzkoa. Twenty-three companies from the furnishings, fixtures, and design sectors of the Basque Country and Navarre participate. It is a meeting point –a living lab– meant for collaboration, interaction, creation, idea exploration, and trend exhibition in which the participating companies present their products and solutions in a decontextualized and balanced way.
The project came to be with the aim of creating an ecosystem and an environment suitable for the development of new forms of cooperation between the different players in the Cultural and Creative Industries sector and the participating companies: a point of convergence for co-creation and co-design, a hub for open innovation. In this dynamic, original, and different space, topics related with new materials and innovative solutions and which are of interest to the various sector players are discussed.
Close collaboration between the Official Association of Interior Designers of Gipuzkoa and the participating companies has allowed for a striking, unique space to be created – one that is able to disseminate and emphasize, on an international level, the image and value of Basque design. Each year, numerous activities take place aimed at professionals in the Basque Country, and Basque Living also receives a yearly average of three hundred visits from architects and designers from around the world.
