Barayazarra + Casteres is an architecture and design studio that specializes in creating spaces and objects closely linked to people. They design architectural projects and pieces of jewelry based on a concept and story that they mold by hand, inspired by the beautiful forms of architecture, nature, art, and any stimuli capable of transmitting emotion.
The studio connects with the true essence of people, exercising all forms of expression and creativity in a unique and very personal way. Beauty, respect, and intimacy are the values that drive and inspire them to achieve their ultimate goal: to transmit wellbeing.
Ignacio Barayazarra and Charo Casteres, who got their degrees in architecture from the San Sebastián Higher Technical School of Architecture, founded their studio in 2004 motivated by the following motto: “We want to transform the ephemeral (the construction work, the vision, the project) into something eternal (the house, the home, the jewel, the concept).”
Their studio is open to the public in a unique space in San Sebastián, in the San Martín District. From there, Ignacio works surrounded by books and ideas that take shape on his table, on his iMac, through his sketches, and with his pencils. A staircase connects his office with Charo’s place of refuge on the upper floor – an intimate space that brims with creativity, full of materials and some unexpected finds, like lichens from tree branches and pebbles collected from the sea. Gold, brass, silver, enamels, odds and ends, papers, precious stones… anything goes for Charo, who draws and turns her sketches into objects that she then displays in the window to bring them closer to people. Beauty in this place takes shape from different angles, but always with one intention: “It’s about transmitting, connecting, crossing the barrier of the physical to come together with the emotional and, thus, meaning,” she admits.
Convinced that life cycles help them grow and reinvent themselves, Barayazarra and Casteres joined paths more than 30 years ago and consolidated their destiny in a brand and a career full of relevant projects and people who have nurtured their journey. Architecture, interior design, jewelry, and –above all– style. Because well-designed things are beautiful and make people happy.
