In the picturesque town of Zarautz, where the waves set the pace of coastal life, Ur Bare stands tall as a retreat where serenity meets style. This boutique hotel housed inside a building from 1945 has been transformed into a contemporary oasis that respects the construction’s original architecture while embracing a new way of experiencing luxury.
With only 13 rooms, Ur Bare embodies an intimate, personalized approach to hospitality. Its interiors exude balance and naturalness: neutral tones, fine materials, and a refined aesthetic that blends seamlessly with the shifting light of the surroundings. From handcrafted beds to stone-clad bathrooms, every element has been conceived to create an atmosphere that invites calm.
The establishment’s culinary offering —showcased above all in the Aiten Etxe restaurant and Tarín bar— forms another of its pillars. Aiten Etxe explores the richness of local ingredients through honest yet refined barbecued cuisine. The menu, which changes with the seasons, is accompanied by a wine list featuring over 200 labels from some of the world’s finest wineries. Tarín bar, in turn, with its relaxed atmosphere and lush garden terrace overlooking the sea, is ideal for enjoying an aperitif before lunch or a cocktail at sunset.
Yet the hotel reserves its greatest secret exclusively for guests: the rooftop, a unique space crowning the building which features an infinity pool and a lounge area with local vegetation, where time seems to dissolve into the view.
Ur Bare does not seek to draw attention. Its presence is serene, understated, almost silent — as if it had always been there, blending into the landscape and the natural rhythm of Zarautz. The essence of its luxury lies not in abundance, but in discernment: well-conceived spaces, unpretentious beauty, and an attention to detail that never imposes itself yet is always felt.
