Facing the historic fishing port of San Sebastián, Lasala Plaza redefines the notion of accommodation by integrating art, history, and landscape into a singular concept. Housed in a meticulously restored 1917 building, this four-star superior category hotel unfolds across six floors as a permanent exhibition that transcends decoration to become a fully immersive cultural experience.
Thanks to unprecedented collaborative efforts with major museums of the Basque Country and Navarre, both the common areas and private rooms are home to a carefully curated selection of works linked to the region’s extraordinary maritime heritage. Participating in this collective exhibition are institutions such as San Telmo (the museum of Basque society), Oiasso (the Roman museum of Irun), Albaola (the shipyard museum in Pasaia where a replica of the sixteenth-century galleon San Juan was recently built), Ollerías (dedicated to traditional pottery), the Jorge Oteiza Museum Foundation in Alzuza, the Castillo de la Mota fortress (crowning Mount Urgull in San Sebastián), as well as Euskal Itsas Museoa (the Basque Maritime Museum) and the Aquarium, both located in the city’s port.
Lithographs, collotypes, sculptures, paintings, earthenware, and historical photographs are part of an artistic journey that transforms every corner of the building into an intimate narrative of Basque identity. These creations engage in dialogue with the building’s restrained architecture and interior design, integrating seamlessly throughout all its floors to create an atmosphere that is immersive, tranquil, and rich in meaning.
