On a hill bathed by the winds of the Cantabrian Sea, Iturregi reveals itself as a boutique hotel where discretion is synonymous with sophistication. Eight rooms are enough to define a concept of measured hospitality, in which every detail blends seamlessly with the serenity of the surrounding landscape: centuries-old vineyards, contemporary sculptures, and a marine horizon that changes with the light of any given moment.
The estate —expansive and sheltered— offers spaces conceived for contemplation: a swimming pool that opens toward the coast, a lounge presided over by an honesty bar, a glass-enclosed porch designed to embrace the sunset, and a dining room where architecture blends with nature through monumental windows. There, every breakfast becomes a ritual, accompanied by fresh flowers and local products served with care. As Marcel Proust once wrote, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” That same spirit defines a stay at Iturregi: one’s gaze slows, sharpens, and reveals the extraordinary within the essential.
In this setting, art holds a prominent place. Iñigo Manterola, a sculptor born in Orio, is the author of a major large-scale piece located outside the hotel and three medium-sized sculptures inside. His works, inspired by the sea and by movement, establish an intimate dialogue with the environment, becoming naturally integrated into the guest’s everyday experience. The hotel also offers guests the opportunity to visit Manterola’s atelier, just fifteen minutes away, and to discover his creative process firsthand.
The privileged location of Iturregi, in Getaria, reinforces this artistic vocation and places it at the heart of an exceptional cultural triangle. In the same town stands Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa, dedicated to the universal genius of haute couture. An hour’s drive away rises the imposing Guggenheim Museum of Bilbao, while only half an hour away awaits Chillida Leku, the park/museum that houses the most extensive and representative body of work by Eduardo Chillida. A triangle that draws an artistic itinerary that is as close as it is inspiring.
