There are hotels where guests truly feel at home. It is not easy to find the key to creating a private environment in a semi-public space, but there are accommodation establishments that manage to do just that. The Villa Soro Hotel of San Sebastián, which was completely renovated in 2022, is one of them. How have they done it? It is thanks to the combination of many different factors that set them apart.
To begin with, the hotel is located in a residential area (one of the most sought-after in the city), surrounded by private villas and palaces. A stately fence guards the property from prying eyes, and only guests can cross through the gate that provides access to the gardens that surround the home. Once inside, the atmosphere is that of a private mansion where the “tenants” enjoy their gardened terrace, living space with a fireplace, and dining rooms with utmost privacy.
The main building of the hotel –a stately, English-style villa from the nineteenth century, one of the city’s Historical Heritage Sites– was originally a family abode; thus, it is not difficult to feel at home there. The 25 rooms are distributed between that building and the old stables. Some rooms have private gardens with outdoor furniture – a plus offered by very few accommodation options.
The experience of residing at this hotel is rounded off by the impeccable collection of works of art that guests can enjoy both in their rooms and in the common areas, featuring paintings by Eduardo Chillida and sculptures by Iñigo Manterola and Jose Cháfer.
Guests can make free use of Villa Soro’s bicycles to explore the city, while those who prefer to do sport inside the establishment have a gym open 24 hours a day. Guests can also relax with a massage in one of the hotel’s two treatment rooms.
But, without a doubt, the most decisive factor for this being the place that many people call home is the friendly service and warm welcome that members of staff give all visitors. The human team is really what makes the difference and what turns this hotel into a home.
