When there is talk of fashion in the Basque Country, there are two brands that almost always crop up: Balenciaga and Minimil. And both have a lot to do with the other. Past and present are linked through the knowledge that the master of haute couture transmitted to the seamstresses working at his workshop – knowledge which they, in turn, passed on to their pupils. Contxu Uzkudun was one of those followers who soon came to dominate the techniques of the trade and dared to open her own fashion firm. Since its launch, Minimil has been a leader amongst the Basque Country’s well dressed.
As the decades have passed, its clothing has come to define a unique and recognizable style: the New Basque Style. Having a cut and color of a marked Basque nature, this clothing is updated season after season in response to new realities.
Minimil is committed to sustainable fashion that respects the environment, is durable, timeless, and made from fine fabrics. Wool, mohair, silk, cashmere, and cotton are the stars of its collections. Today, Ana and Beatriz –the founder’s daughters– are at the helm of this woman-led family business. Thanks to their work, they have helped Minimil to not only gain presence in the three Basque capitals, but also in Valencia –in the form of a boutique– as well as acquiring sales worldwide through the brand’s online shop.
